OVERVIEW

A mentor is a guide and a resource who paves the way to success and derives satisfaction from helping others succeed. Your role as mentor is to inspire, encourage, and support your mentee, and to contribute to their professional and personal development.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE THE FLASH MENTORING EXPECTATIONS?

  • Mentors are expected to provide their mentee with about one hour of support and interaction.
  • The mentor and mentee determine when and where the meeting takes place. It is acceptable to meet via phone, video conferencing, or in-person – whatever is most convenient for both parties.
  • Mentors should take the lead from the student about the type of support needed. Topics can range from specific feedback on industry or job search strategies to gaining advice to progress in their career field. The student will share the topic they want to discuss in their meeting request.

HOW WILL I CONNECT WITH A MENTEE?

  • Students will send meeting requests to the mentor.
  • Some of our mentees are participating because they have a class assignment. The program will share assignment deadlines and encourage mentors to respond promptly to those requests.
  • The student will suggest times, dates and mode of communication based on the general availability the mentor has shared.

WHAT ARE THE TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED?

  • Students may have questions about your company, role, experiences, requests for job shadowing, or seek general career advice.

WHO ARE THE MENTEES?

  • All currently enrolled CSU College of Business Students – both undergraduate and graduate - are eligible to enroll.
  • Students in some academic courses will use this platform to complete informational interview assignments.
